Work
I travelled from Scotland with Airbnb on the premise of not using a plane to get to the south of Italy over the course of two weeks, encouraging more sustainable travel. We stayed in Airbnb’s on route to our end location of the campaign: Grottole, a small village in the Basilicata region, where over 600 home have been abandoned as people have left for work in the cities. Airbnb chose 5 volunteers to work with the locals, learn traditional skills and revitalise the village and put the area on the international map. I photographed both the time in the village, the apartments we stayed in on route and the journey from Scotland, through Germany, Austria and the Dolomites. I also met the locals and the volunteers, finding out their strategies of how they are reinvigorating Grottole and bringing people back to the region.
